An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) forms the basis for achieving environmental protection for defence technology projects. The EIA sets out and evaluates the environmental impact to be expected during the development, use and disposal of a product.<\/span><\/p>\n

An EIA is based on the guidelines issued by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) for the preparation of environmental impact assessments in accordance with the regulations C1-2030\/0-7001. An EIA guarantees that the material can be used safely and in line with environmental targets taking the circumstances into consideration both during training operations in peacetime as well as under operational conditions. The EIA must be drafted in the development phase and in the prototype phase and covers the product\u2019s entire life cycle. Accordingly, the environmental impact assessment must be continually updated through all usage phases. <\/span><\/p>\n

Manufacturers must ensure that their products comply with the applicable environmental regulations at the time of placing on the market. We support you in the process of creating the EIA in identifying and verifying compliance with all relevant legislations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Materials and weights<\/span><\/p>\n

Applied materials and weights will be broken down to the smallest conclusively interchangeable unit in order to identify potential hazardous substances and locate them within the product, respectively, total system.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lists of Hazardous Substances<\/span><\/p>\n

- Identifying hazardous substances (e.g. hexavalent chromium, cadmium, SVHC substances)
- Procurement of safety data sheets
- Verification of environmental legal approval for the use of hazardous substances (e.g. pursuant to RoHS, REACH, Biocide Ordinance etc.)
- Environmental legal requirements of foreign states with regard to the use of hazardous substances (within and outside Europe)<\/span><\/p>\n

To protect the environment the Bundeswehr seeks to comply with all environmental regulations. This also applies to regulations excluding ordnance or products. For the use of defense material that does not fully comply with the environmental regulations, exception approvals are needed. We assist you in arguing and applying for requesting exception approvals.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw, formerly BWB) has the aim that manufacturers of equipment to be introduced for military use in the Bundeswehr should undertake to define measures for the safe and healthy design of workplaces and the working environment for employees.<\/span><\/p>\n

The hazard assessment is a preventive measure to minimize the risk in occupational safety to prevent accidents, illnesses, absenteeism and costs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The hazard assessment is the main element for ensuring that the equipment in question is safe and must always be carried out before the equipment is put into operation. Based on our extensive experience in assessing equipment, we at BfU AG have a high level of know-how in preparing hazard assessments. We utilize this to provide effective support.<\/span><\/p>\n

We will undertake the entire process relating to documented hazard assessment for you. This covers the following processing steps:<\/span><\/p>\n

- Analysis of possible hazards in the use phase (e.g. in respect of operation, repair, maintenance, foreseeable misuse or transportation)

- Definition of necessary measures for effective removal of existing hazards
- Definition of organizational specifications and personnel-related requirements
- Review of measures (effectiveness control)
- Review of the effectiveness of the technical protective measures
- Documentation of the hazard potential
